Chart Methodology

At TopCharts News, all rankings are generated using a structured, data-driven methodology designed to reflect both current momentum and overall performance.

Our system analyzes publicly available data from YouTube and transforms it into standardized metrics that allow fair comparison across videos and artists.

Data Source

All chart data is based on publicly available statistics from YouTube, including:

  • Total Views
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Publish Date

Data is collected and synchronized through an automated system at regular intervals.

Core Metrics

1. Average Daily Views (ADV)

Average Daily Views measures how fast a video is currently gaining views relative to its age.

Formula:

Average Daily Views = Total Views ÷ Days Since Publish

This metric is the foundation of the Potential Rank, as it highlights fast-growing and trending videos.

2. Engagement Rates

We measure engagement using two normalized indicators:

  • Like Rate = Likes ÷ Days Since Publish
  • Comment Rate = Comments ÷ Days Since Publish

These metrics reflect how actively audiences interact with a video over time.

3. Popular Score

The Popular Score is a combined engagement indicator:

Popular Score = Like Rate + Comment Rate

This score is used to evaluate overall audience interaction and contributes to artist-level rankings.

Chart Types

Potential Rank

The Potential Rank focuses on momentum and growth speed.

  • Primary factor: Average Daily Views
  • Secondary factor: Engagement signals

This chart is designed to identify:

  • Emerging hits
  • Viral content
  • Rapidly growing music videos

Older videos with high total views but low recent growth may rank lower than newer, fast-rising entries.

Popular Rank

The Popular Rank measures overall artist strength and consistency.

For each artist, we aggregate:

  • Total Popular Score across all active works
  • Total Average Daily Views

This chart reflects:

  • Sustained performance
  • Catalog strength
  • Audience engagement over time

Artists with multiple consistently performing videos will rank higher.

Data Scope

Charts are generated based on the active entries stored in the system’s video library.

Filters may be applied by:

  • Country
  • Language
  • Gender
  • Genre
  • Upload Year

Only videos marked as active are included in calculations.

Update Frequency

Chart data is updated regularly through automated synchronization.

  • Metrics are refreshed periodically
  • Daily snapshots may be stored for ranking comparison
  • Rank changes are calculated based on previous snapshots

Ranking Behavior

  • Rankings are recalculated after each data update
  • New entries may appear as NEW
  • Rank changes are displayed as:
    • ↑ Rising
    • ↓ Falling
    • — No Change

Limitations

While we aim to provide accurate and fair rankings, the system has certain limitations:

  • Data depends on publicly available YouTube statistics
  • Sudden spikes or anomalies may temporarily affect rankings
  • Private, removed, or restricted videos cannot be tracked

Transparency & Fairness

TopCharts News does not manually adjust rankings.

All charts are:

  • Fully data-driven
  • Automatically calculated
  • Consistent across all categories

Our goal is to provide a transparent and objective view of music performance.
